Rinpoche was born in Bhutan in 1918. When he was still a child he became a monk in Punaka Djong, the biggest Bhutanese monastery. When he was thirteen he left Bhutan and moved to Nepal to study and practice under the guidance of his uncle Drukpa Rinpoche Lama Serab Dorje. There he was fully instructed and meditated under strict conditions in Milarepa’s caves and Guru Rinpoche’s holly places. In 1944 the Rinpoche met the 16th Karmapa in Bumtang, Buthan from whom he took most of the teachings and initiations of the karma kagyu lineage
In 1987, after an invitation of his first western students and close friends Hannah and Ole Nydhal, he vistited Europe. Since then, he traveled all over the world giving teachings and countless empowerments at the Bouddhist Centeres established by Ole and Hannah. The power of his compassion was most appreciable. He left for the Buddha Lands in June 2003.
